The Ring - Opening Scene clip
The Ring opening analysis
In the opening we are introduced to a female dressed in normal clothing, and the setting is in a normal house. She steps forward and brings her drink to her mouth stops then takes the drink away from her mouth connoting that something has caught her attention, this creates a confused tone as we don't know what she is looking at. The TV is muffled, and she reveals to us by shouting out to her friend that this is abnormal, throughout this her facial/body expressions suggest that she is slightly scared/confused as her movement is slow, she then runs over to the fridge and shuts the door with force reinforcing the abnormality of whats going on. A high angle shot is used of her looking up the stairs this shows that she feels intimidated by whats happening, she walks slowly up to the door which builds suspense for the next scene, a close up is used of her grabbing the door knob which indicates that behind the door will reveal information, as she is about to open the door her facial expression anchors whats happening as she appears to be terrified. The diegtic sound mixed of her screaming and the TV creating a screeching sound builds up a climax, this introduces an enigma of whats causing this to happen. The non-diegetic background music which is played throughout creates suspense and a curious tone is set throughout the opening.
